Pacific women from Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and the Cook Islands will share their crafts and experience at Genetic Pasifika, a two week community event held at Artstation.
Pacific women from Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and the Cook Islands will share their crafts and experience at Genetic Pasifika, a two week community event held at Artstation.
Genetic Pasifika, part of the larger Pasifika Festival aims to celebrate and remix the genetic, cultural and artistic threads between Pacific people.

The Artstation Gallery will be transformed into a space that represents the four participating Pacific nations. Visiting Pacific women will present, demonstrate and sell weaving, tivaevae, Fijian pottery and tapa during the event. Providing opportunities for Pacific women to further economic trade is an important part of Genetic Pasifika.

Organiser Brenda Railey likens Genetic Pasifika to a conversation that encourages Pacific and Auckland communities to exchange craft skills, knowledge and understanding. The main focus is on creating opportunities for the participation and sharing of culture.

Local community groups such as primary schools, Maori weavers and craft groups will be invited to participate in Genetic Pasifika. The lively and creative atmosphere will encourage spontaneous performances and activities. The community is invited to come along and be part of the experience.
