Helping Hand for Sports Teams and Small Community Groups

If you missed the inaugural success of "Just A Five Dollar Do" in 2003, make sure you get in early this time round! "Just A Five Dollar Do" is an event where celebrities come together to compete in a challenge of what has been labelled as "Freshie Theatre Sports".

Image: All Black Sam Tuitupou performs at Pronesia Theatre SportsThe event by the 'Pronesia Community Trust' (a non profitable charitable organisation) is in support of small "grass root" community groups and sports teams who have constructive positive objectives, by providing an opportunity to raise funds so they can pursue their activities. The purpose the event was created is to support struggling team's fundraise for sport's fees, team uniforms etc, by holding a "Freshie Theatre Sports" night that incorporated Music, Theatrical and Sporting talent, all packaged in one night. This year Pronesia is expanding its reach, after seeing other community groups in need of financial aid.

Groups are given the chance to sell a number of $20.00 tickets to the event, and receive a $15.00 return for every ticket sold. The remaining $5.00 going to set up costs - hence the name "Just a Five Dollar Do". The response last year was enormous, with all tickets sold out.

Last November saw All Black Sam Tuitupou and NRL/ Kiwi star Joe Galuvao of the Penrith Panthers square off, to combat in some hilarious challenges, including trivia, songs, dance and stage relays. Niu FM DJ, Sela Alo serenade the crowd with an off the cuff performance of a love song that brought the crowd to tears of laughter. The winning performance went to ex-Kiwi League star David Solomona, who twisted the lyrics to the tune of Achy Breaky Heart.

This years event will have a strong focus on Safety in the Water - leading up to the summer period, with the event targeting the community with a learn to swim message with the provision of free professional swimming lessons, following the support initiative of national swimming school - Swimsation. www.swimsation.com

Every year there are groups ranging from your local girl guides through to touch football and softball teams raising funds for one reason or another. This is another avenue that can be used to raise funds for these groups. These groups will also know of people wishing to learn to swim, and these groups will be encouraged to partake in a term of free swimming lessons" says Chairman Wesley Faleolo.

"Just A Five Dollar Do", will be held on Friday 29th October at the Beaumont Centre, Auckland City.

Pronesia hopes to see the event expand each year not only physically in terms of size but also geographically.
