An exhibition by famous French rugby photographer, Michel Birot, reputed for his black and white photography of the game will soon be on display at the Alliance Française de Wellington.

The exhibition entitled 'Instantanes' which translates into English as 'Instantaneous', is a collection made up of photos illustrating varied moments of significance for their creator, moments that could so easily have been lost in this fast-paced, action-packed sport. An exhibition by famous French rugby photographer, Michel Birot, reputed for his black and white photography of the game will soon be on display at the Alliance Française de Wellington.

The exhibition entitled 'Instantanes' which translates into English as 'Instantaneous', is a collection made up of photos illustrating varied moments of significance for their creator, moments that could so easily have been lost in this fast-paced, action-packed sport.The exhibition, which has been compiled in the tradition of rivalry between great rugby nations and as part of the build-up to the 2011 Rugby World Cup, has been described as 'the merging of art and sport through emotive black and white work capturing the passion of rugby'.

Born in 1953 in Auriac, Michel Birot has lived and worked in Paris since 1974. He began his career as a professional photographer for Le Figaro magazine and went on to work in fashion and in advertising. He has been photographing rugby in black and white for more than a decade and today is the Editor-in-Chief of the monthly magazine Attitude Rugby.

A reception will be held at the Alliance on the 10th of July to launch the exhibition that will run through to the 22nd of August.
