Don't miss the final two public art installations in Auckland City Council's Living Room 2008 programme, set to appear in the CBD in June. Urban Life by Test Tube Television and Storybox by Dnation Creative, both night-time digital installations, are the final acts in this year's series of temporary visual and performing art installations.

Arts, Community and Recreation Committee chairperson, Councillor Greg Moyle, says the Living Room series aims to enliven the central city's public spaces and encourage people to discover the vibrant sights and sounds of the CBD. "The creative installations appear unexpectedly in various locations around the CBD, each one grabbing the attention of passers-by and adding interest and entertainment to their everyday activities," he says.

In a contemporary digital experience, Urban Life acknowledges an important CBD historical site - the Odeon Cinema in Lorne Street. It follows the life cycle of digital creatures that have evolved from modern art practice and taken up shelter in the boarded-up window at the rear of the cinema, only coming out at night. Reacting to movement and noise in the street below, the creatures will engage with curious passers-by. The family friendly exhibit can be seen between 5pm and 10pm, 9 to 22 June, projected on the wall of the Odeon Cinema, opposite the Central City Library.

At the other end of the CBD, Storybox will light up the night sky with live performance and moving images projected inside two stacked shipping containers. Situated at the entrance to Princes Wharf in the Viaduct Harbour, the large-scale video installation explores forgotten stories of Auckland's sea-going past from the nearby New Zealand National Maritime Museum, through music by Rhian Sheehan and Hummel and visuals by Robert Appierdo and Jessica Feast. The installation will run between dusk and 11pm, from 13 to 20 June. Do not miss the live opening night performance at 8pm on Friday, 13 June.
