End of an era for disabled duo

The extraordinary life of three-legged dog Boiski, who accompanied amputee, Bali fundraiser and Touch Compass dancer Tim Turner everywhere, was celebrated at Narrowneck Beach in Devonport on Monday this week.

Boiski had been in huge amounts of pain for the last few months and has not responded to medical and natural remedies. This week Tim made the difficult decision to farewell Boiski one last time.
End of an era for disabled duo

The extraordinary life of three-legged dog Boiski, who accompanied amputee, Bali fundraiser and Touch Compass dancer Tim Turner everywhere, was celebrated at Narrowneck Beach in Devonport on Monday this week.

Boiski had been in huge amounts of pain for the last few months and has not responded to medical and natural remedies. This week Tim made the difficult decision to farewell Boiski one last time.

Immortalised in Union, one of the mixed ability dance company's films in their show, Acquisitions 03, Boiski will be remembered by many for his part in the picture of togetherness he and Tim created.

While it may seem odd to mourn the passing of a dog from the ranks of an all too human dance company, Boiski was no ordinary dog and was recognised by many Auckland wide. For the Company and its audience he truly captured the notion that everyone can dance.

Tim lost his leg in a motorcycle accident and met Boiski by chance four years ago. The unlikely couple have been inseparable ever since. Tim has been inundated with good wishes for Boiski from the general public.

"I am grateful for the amount of compassion people have expressed," he said. "It has been a phenomenal experience to see just how many lives Boiski has touched and it is clear many will miss him."

Tim has also run three Turning Mobility fundraisers, which have raised thousands to send artificial limbs to amputees in Bali.

A special ceremony to say goodbye to Boiski was held on Narrowneck beach, (Old Lake Rd, Devonport - look for the flags) at 6pm, Monday 21st November.
