As cultural organisations they are not just repositories of cultural knowledge, they also provide a link between New Zealand’s cultural resources, or cultural capital, and its wider cultural activities. The cultural statistics framework separates the library sector by library types, for example public, special, research and technical libraries, and university and school libraries.

This report shows the changes in levels and distribution of employment in the cultural sector, highlighting the rapid growth and diversity within this sector. Demographics such as age, ethnicity, income, gender and education within each group are also examined.
