This chapter presents data on employment in broadcasting. This report shows the changes in levels and distribution of employment in the cultural sector, highlighting the rapid growth and diversity within this sector. Demographics such as age, ethnicity, income, gender and education within each group are also examined.

Although the cultural statistics framework treats radio and television as distinct media, there is no facility in the standard occupational classification to present separate data on the two. It should also be noted that the occupations artistic director and broadcasting and theatrical production manager relate not just to the broadcasting industry, but to the performing arts and film industries as well.

Data on the occupation broadcasting and theatrical production manager is presented in this chapter because more people are employed in broadcasting than other industries.
