As part of their commitment to the support of medical research, Team McMillan BMW has commissioned eleven artists to produce art works on shortened BMW bonnets which will be made available for the Mercy Hospice charity auction next month.

Included in the collection is an Auckland panorama which has a transposed St Stephens chapel and another panorama of the boat sheds at Orakei by Justin Boroughs.Paul Hartigan has a neon creation while John Reynolds has one of his tantalizing works.
Internationally BMW has been significant in commissioning major artists to paint full BMW's. In the past these artists have included Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and David Hockney.
Bob McMillan developed the idea of painting on the display bonnets, a concept which has not been explored previously by the automotive industry.
The Bonnet Art Works are shortened bonnets of lightweight fibreglass with the artists producing work ranging from the abstract to the realist.
The bonnets will be on display to the public at the Team McMillan BMW showrooms in Newmarket from Thursday October 16th until Sunday October 19th.
The award will be announced on the evening of Wednesday October 15th. This will also be the occasion of the announcement of the BMW Art Awards for emerging artists.
At the BMW Awards ceremony on Wednesday 15th October one of the Bonnet Artists will receive a cheque for $10,000 from Team McMillan BMW for their bonnet work which will become part of the Team McMillan BMW art collection.
The artists contributing works are Peter Siddell, Sylvia Siddell, Paul Hartigan, Roy Good, Lyn Bergquist, John Reynolds, Anah Dunsheath, Christina Popovici, Justin Boroughs, Mervyn Williams and Gary Currin.
The bonnets will be auctioned at the charity auction for Mercy Hospice which will be held later in the year.
