"ONE DROP EAST" The New Album History
Salmonella Dub's new Album "One Drop East" is their 5th Album proper and began it's life in early 2002.
At the time the band were still riding the wave of massive success from Inside the Dubplates released in August of the previous year. Rhythm sessions for One Drop East were started with Shihad/Pacifier engineer David Wernham at Sweet Juice in Christchurch. The first round of instrumentation began at Andrew's new retreat Room With A View in Kaikoura with longstanding producer Paddy Free. It was during these sessions that the first two singles Dancehall Girl and Ez On took shape as well as Octopus (Te Wheke) and a track called Mercy. These early recordings have an expansive quality possibly inspired by the vast mountains, rugged landscape and the deep oceans of Kaikoura. By late summer 2003 the band had completed the instrumentation on 16 tracks with rough arrangements totalling more than 90 minutes. In March the first single Dancehall Girl was released in New Zealand and Australia with resulting sold out tours through out Australasia.
In early May the band returned home for a self-imposed studio lockdown. Assisted by Paddy Free the band arranged, mixed and produced the final master at Tiki's whare and studio in Christchurch. The resulting album of 10 tracks (see list below) weighs in at 66 minutes. With a further 4 or 5 out-takes up their sleeve the band have a wealth of B-sides and bonus disc material to develop and release later in the year.
The album release is going to be supported with a nationwide tour in September and October.
