The young Afghanis were refused entry by Australia, but eventually accepted by New Zealand. Through a media maelstrom and political contest, they battled to have their families join them.

Goldson's previous films have screened and won awards at festivals around the world, and include tiles such as 'Sheilas' (which also gets a screening at the DOCNZ festival), 'Georgie Girl' and 'Punitive Damage'.

Director James Frankham shot much of 'Pacific Solution' with small digital camera equipment, enabling him to capture intimate family moments and sequences that would not have been possible with a full crew. The result is a moving story, which examines the political climate and looming refugee crisis facing our world, through the prism of a family's journey.

The Ister discusses his ideas and the geo-politics of middle Europe through a trip up the Danube from the Black Sea, Romania, to its source in Germany. During the film, three philosophers discuss Heidegger, giving their account of his ideas on culture and where they distinguish themselves from him. Dont miss this really valuable opportunity: it is a rare chance to see a film that is something of a landmark in film-making for this region and in philosophy. And a chance to engage with theoretical issues in an easy format.

It has been written up very favourably in Artforum this year by Daniel Birnbaum, and is visually a great film.
