held at Massey University Albany Campus on the 24 and 25 July 2003.Massey University School of Design in conjunction with Victoria University Chair of Malay Studies and the University of Malaya would like to invite those interested to the Conference on Malay-Maori Affinity which will be
held at Massey University Albany Campus on the 24 and 25 July 2003.This conference will trace the similarities and differences between the Malays and the Maori through an eclectic collection of papers from various areas. Through academic and practitioners from the two cultures we seek to
uncover historical and topical issues related to the two cultures and addressing how it has evolved, giving impact and adapting to globalization and the western culture.

The conference will be opened by Prof Judith Kinnear, our newly appointed Vice Chancellor, and distinguished academics and practitioners from New Zealand and Malaysia have also been invited to present papers on issues they
specialise in.

The keynote speakers are Professor Mason Durie, and Professor Wan Abdul Kadir Yusoff. Professor Durie, a distinguished leader in Maori Research and author of several books on Maori Health and Politics, is Assistant Vice Chancellor at Massey University. Professor Wan Abdul Kadir Yusoff, a leading Malaysian Social Anthropologist who has published books on Malay popular culture, is currently the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, Academy of
Malay Studies, University of Malaya.

There is no charge for attending the conference. Conference attendance includes printout of papers, morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch. Places however are strictly limited on a 'first in first served' basis. A copy of the invitation, timetable and registration form is attached. If you are
