The conference is co-sponsored and organised by Pacific Studies at Victoria University of Wellington in conjunction with the Museum of New Zealand.

Culture Moves! Is the first international conference to bring together choreographers, dancers, composers, curators, costume makers, scholars, writers, musicians and artists to discuss the knowledge and practice of
dance in Oceania across cultural, national, academic and aesthetic boundaries.

Conference themes:

1. Dance in Oceania: historical perspectives-dance practices across time and space from the islands to the diaspora and back

2. Choreography and Movement-choreographic traditions, repertoires of movement, kinaesthetic boundaries, emotion and energy, dance training

3. Contexts of Performance-spaces and places of performance, ritual, politics, activism, entertainment, media, cultures of dance, audience

4. Music and rhythm-music composition for dance, rhythmic traditions, lyrics, chant, narrative, body percussion, musical instruments, and music technology

5. Documenting the Dance-dance in museum contexts, material culture of dance, dance related museum collections, recordings and ephemera
