Site Specific Installation
Trish Scott and her students in the original vat house. This group of women ranging in age from mid twenties to a 73 year old have graciously and mysteriously transformed a historic site at CEAC using found objects, wax and plaster, with references to the space and memories. Attention to detail and meanings are paramount, capturing a sense of wonder and timelessness.

Stone Carving
Fatu Feu'u and his students have each worked at revealing the form with in a piece of Hinurewa or Oramu Stone. Using Dina drill, scotch hammers and muscle power the forms are varied and interesting.

Bronze Casting
David Reid has once again captured the imagination of a lovely group of 12 students from all walks of life who have discovered the joys of creating a hand sized piece of bronze sculpture.

Several of the artists who have studios on site will be open on the day including Sculpture Andrew DeBoer, and Potter Kairava Gullatz.

POETS PICNIC
Sunday 15th February

at the Corban Estate Arts Centre, 426 Great North Rd,

Set in the park-like grounds of the former Corban winery estate the Poets Picnic will be a fun and relaxing day for the whole family. People are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and soak up poetry read by approx 20 local poets including:

Jim McGregor, Marianne Simpkins, Brian Suete, Cherie Barford, Arthur Amon, Barbara Hawthorn, June Raw, John Yelash, Sandra Spry, the Pudney Children - Rachel and Nickola, Keith Newman, Sonja Woodley, Jocelyn Aydon, Vaughn Falconer, Yvonne Lovejoy, Gail Ramano.

Other highlights include
€¢ A global rhyme section with poets from India and China.
€¢ Roving open mic opportunities for those emerging poets who want to have a go.
€¢ The library mobile bus, so bring your library card if you wish to take out books.
€¢ Eco City 'Twin Streams' project with a display of walking tracks along the adjacent streams -so bring you walking shoes if you feel like a stroll.

ARTS SPEAK
February Topic: 'Arts Away' - on the loose in Ireland and the UK
Speaker: Naomi McCleary Arts Manager Waitakere City Council

Naomi McCleary has recently returned from a fascinating and inspirational journey to Ireland and the UK to study a number of leading arts projects, under an exchange sister city programme between Waitakere City Council and Galway City.

Naomi will be presenting a slide lecture in the Corban Estate Arts Centre gallery on Monday 2nd February at 7pm about this trip.

Naomi will 'tiki' tour through highlights of her trip including:
€¢ The role of the Council in Ireland in relation to arts and heritage, and their "Percentage for Art" scheme.
€¢ The Galway Arts Festival, (which attracts an audience from across the UK and further afield.)
€¢ The Grizdale Forest Sculpture Park
€¢ Meeting the movers and shakers in London's Arts Admin area.
€¢ Information about arts/design collaboration schemes.

Arts Speak is a new monthly event being held at the Corban Estate Arts Centre. The programme offers local artists and anyone interested in learning more about art an opportunity to discuss new and interesting ideas with an exciting and diverse range of speakers.
