The Corban Estate Arts Centre (CEAC) in Henderson, has just created a cluster of studios suitable and affordable for artists who have recently graduated.

“There seems to be a need for affordable space for graduate artists, to support them in making the transition from the protected art school environment into the wider art world,” says Martin Sutcliffe, CEAC’s Director. 

“There are around twelve or so artists already based here in studios, both emerging and established artists, working in a variety of media.  It makes for a stimulating arts environment, where younger artists can get the support they might need.”

CEAC has eight studios designated for graduate artists, clustered together and open to one another, creating a group atmosphere similar to that found in many art schools.  They are situated in a basic warehouse environment, with concrete floors and partitioning walls on three sides.  Already half of these studios are occupied by artist tenants, but there still a few available. 

Boe Busch, recently moved into one of the studios.  “Since I’ve moved in, I’ve really been enjoying working here.  I’ve got good light, it’s secure, it’s cheap and there’s 24 hour access.  Being surrounded by other artists is great for bouncing ideas around and talking with the other artists about having exhibitions together.  Everyone’s really friendly.”
