Distinguished New Zealand composer Professor David Farquhar died on Tuesday 8 May in Wellington after a long illness.
Recognised since the 1950s as a significant figure in the field of New Zealand composition, Farquhar was also a strong advocate for New Zealand music. Distinguished New Zealand composer Professor David Farquhar died on Tuesday 8 May in Wellington after a long illness.
Recognised since the 1950s as a significant figure in the field of New Zealand composition, Farquhar was also a strong advocate for New Zealand music.He was active throughout his life in performance and education - he founded the Composers' Assocation of NZ, served for many years on the Composers' Foundation of APRA and, for forty years, taught composition at Victoria University of Wellington.
A funeral will be held at Old St. Paul's, Molesworth Street, Wellington at 4pm on Saturday 12 May. A reception will follow in the Adam Concert Room on the Kelburn Campus of the New Zealand School of Music.
