"Stoked" is how Nesian Mystik's Feleti Strickson-Pua describes having the new #1 single in the country. And Bounce Records' Dean Godward concurs: "We're all ecstatic."
Nesian Mystik becomes the second local act to land a digital-only #1, following in the footsteps just last month of Tiki Taane's Always On My Mind.
It's taken the six-member outfit six years and nine months to make the top since Nesian Style opened their chart account in 2001, peaking at #9. Their sophomore effort It's On took four weeks to make #2 in 2002 and until this week that track had been the Nesians' biggest single.by Andrew Miller

Their sophomore effort It's On took four weeks to make #2 in 2002 and until this week that track had been the Nesians' biggest single. That's all changed now as Nesian 101 jumps three places to give them their first ever #1. The track's now gone gold, giving them their fourth gold-certified single.
"We're stoked that we finally got there, but feel humble as well,'" comments Feleti (aka Sabre).
The song is the lead single from Elevator Music which drops Labour Day. It's preceded by second single, Dance Floor, due to hit radio next week.
Phil Misses The Triple
Well, it was almost #1 single and album double for Phil Collins as ...Hits takes over the Album Chart pole position, only to find In The Air Tonight slipping to #2.
The #1 album gives the Genesis drummer a third chart-topper here though, and the first in 19 years. The last was 1989's But Seriously while the first was 1985's No Jacket Required.
He still manages a double as Finally: The First Farewell Tour lands a second frame atop of the DVD list.
The New Singles
#29 Three 6 Mafia - Loli Loli (Pop That Body)
The duo Juicy J and DJ Paul are the constants in Three 6 Mafia. Their beginnings date back to the early '90s and two years back Stay Fly made #16. This week they grab a second hit here, Loli Loli (Pop That Body) taking highest new entry honours at #29 for the rappers.
#32 Miley Cyrus - See You Again
Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus lands her first New Zealand hit single as See You Again starts fresh at #32. She's had a couple of album chart sets, but has yet to beat her Dad Billy Ray who racked up two hit albums and a trio of hit singles including 1992's platinum-selling #1 Achy Breaky Heart.
#33 T-Pain featuring Lil Wayne - Can't Believe It
T-Pain's back for a 14th hit appearance and fourth of 2008 (although only his 2005 #11 debut I'm Sprung has a sole T-Pain credit). Along for the jam, Lil Wayne lands his sixth hit here and second in this week's list (Lollipop is #25). Stateside the roles are reversed with T-Pain being support on Lil Wayne's Got Money, a song yet to break here.
#35 Slipknot - Psychosocial
It sure is interesting digital times when Slipknot hit the Singles chart! The Iowa hard rock group have their first ever Singles Chart showing here with Psychosocial new at #35. It precedes their fourth album All Hope Is Gone and their Auckland show on October 22. All three sets have charted here thus far, with 2004's #3 gold-certified Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses being the biggest.
#38 The Living End - White Noise
It's double entry time for The Living End - both with the single and album (see below) titled White Noise. The brand new single gives them a fourth hit here since their 1998 debut.
The New Albums
#15 Def Leppard - Rock Of Ages: Definitive Collection
Sheffield England is home to Joe Cocker, Human League and of course, Def Leppard. Due here for a Vector Arena gig in November, they precede it with their second chart-set of 2008. Songs From The Sparkle Lounge was an album of new material that peaked at #26 in May; now it's back to the hits as Rock Of Ages: Definitive Collection lands them the highest new entry of the week at #15. Their first hit release, Vault, made it to #2 in 1995. At eight times platinum, having spent three weeks at #1 and 72 weeks on the chart, Hysteria remains the biggest of all their seven charting albums in New Zealand.
#18 The Living End - White Noise
With one debut and a label change Aussie trio Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Travis Demsey land their highest charting New Zealand album as White Noise debuts at #18. It's currently #2 in their homeland and brings their tally here to five.
#23 Nine Inch Nails - The Slip
Main man Trent Reznor has made The Slip, the latest release by his group Nine Inch Nails, available for free to download and remix. However, the limited edition physical version gives NIN a sixth chart album in New Zealand and the second for 2008. With its #23 debut it betters the #26 peak of March's Ghosts I-IV.
#30 Beth Rowley - Little Dreamer
Although born in Lima, Peru, newcomer Beth Rowley has English parents (similar to both Cliff Richard and Engelbert Humperdinck who were both outside the UK, both born in India!). The 27-year-old singer-songwriter has worked with the likes of Ronan Keating, Enrique Iglesias and Crowded House prior to her solo debut, Little Dreamer. Her debut recently made it to #6 in the UK and gives her a #30 first-week debut here.
#38 Scars On Broadway - Scars On Broadway
Rockers, Scars On Broadway, who feature two past members of System Of A Down, land a self-titled chart album at #38. Singer/guitarist Daron Malakian says the band is more 'rock-driven' than his previous band, drawing inspiration from classic rock acts like David Bowie, Brian Eno, Neil Young and Roxy Music.
