Finally 23-year-old Katy Perry jumps to the Singles Chart penthouse suite as I Kissed A Girl becomes New Zealand's #1 single. It's taken her eight weeks to achieve the feat and matches her US, Australian, Canadian and UK peaks.
What is rather unique these days is the fact there is a physical single available, the first #1 since Leona Lewis's Bleeding Love last Christmas. The track has caused some controversy Stateside due to its lyrical content and Perry's Christian upbringing. Both of her parents are pastors and her self-titled debut album was a gospel album.
It doesn't seem to have affected I Kissed A Girl here. In fact, its host album, One Of The Boys, is new to the Albums Chart at #25.
Born Katheryn Hudson, Katy took her mother's maiden name Perry to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson.
The Keri Factor
In a stroke, 25-year-old Keri Hilson doubles her New Zealand hit single tally, going from the two featuring with Timbaland to four in all. Her debut solo set In A Perfect World... drops in Spring and contains Energy, this week's highest Singles new entry at #12.
Meanwhile her collaboration Superhuman with Chris Brown anchors the chart at #40. Which gives chart-topping young Chris an 11th hit appearance, and three in this week's survey.

#35 The Verve - Love Is Noise
Richard Ashcroft and Manchester band The Verve called it quits in April 1999. After an eight-year hiatus they reformed in June last year, and now 10 years since their last hit, Love Is Noise the lead single from Forth (due later this month) is new at #35.
