New Zealand's only act at NXNE returns from North American success

Singer/songwriter Charlotte Johansen has just returned from a successful trip to Toronto after playing the biggest annual music event in Canada; North by North East (NXNE).   The Canadian equivalent to South by South West (SXSW) was held over 3 consecutive nights in Toronto city in June.   Over 400 acts participated in this musical event, which attracted approximately 20,000 people from both Canada and overseas. Singer/songwriter Charlotte Johansen has just returned from a successful trip to Toronto after playing the biggest annual music event in Canada; North by North East (NXNE).   The Canadian equivalent to South by South West (SXSW) was held over 3 consecutive nights in Toronto city in June.   Over 400 acts participated in this musical event, which attracted approximately 20,000 people from both Canada and overseas.Fans eagerly anticipated Charlotte's return some of who flew across country from Calgary or drove from the United States just to see her perform.

"There was a great buzz in the room, everyone was excited about hearing the old favourites and the new material, and they even got up and danced.
Apparently Toronto audiences never do this!"

Kate Hollett, an established artist in Canada approached Charlotte after her show wanting to use one of Charlotte's songs in her next film as she had had a flash of inspiration during the show.

Also amongst the music industry delegates who attended the show, was a Canadian producer eager to record Charlotte the following week before she
flew home. "It was a tight schedule; we only had 5 days, but it was great fun.   We ate lots of Subway sandwiches and recorded five new songs".

Returning from her successful Canadian trip, Charlotte is continuing to build her career as a musician/songwriter and performer, both nationally and
internationally.   Using the Canadian recordings plus the recordings won as runner up at the prestigious York Street Studios Acid Test, Charlotte plans to have an EP available within the next few months.

Following the positive response received in Canada, Charlotte will be returning to Toronto for more recording and a cross country tour next year.
Charlotte is also exploring other international shores, following offers to promote her music in the US, Asian and European markets. She is also planning a reciprocal tour with a prominent Australian singer/songwriter.

Releasing the EP, two music videos and touring will keep Charlotte busy for the rest of the year.

Performing at an international showcase such as NXNE was an invaluable experience says Charlotte. "Not only is it a great networking opportunity but I can see the positive implications in terms of my confidence as a
performer and taking the steps needed to develop my career".

The decision to become that singer songwriter came through her involvement on the New Space Professional Development Programme.   New Space is a programme supporting creative workers to achieve financial viability doing what they love and for Charlotte it gave her the skills to make her dream
real.   There has been no looking back and now Charlotte also facilitates on the New Space Programme when she is in town.
