Christchurch literary journal launches spoken word CD

The release of volume 4 from Christchurch-based literary journal Catalyst on December 1st will also mark the launch of a CD collaboration of original New Zealand music and spoken word.

The launch event will feature readings from Catalyst-featured writers and guest poets from around NZ plus tracks from the very first in Catalyst's Spoken Word Series CD.

The release party at the Wunderbar in Lyttelton will be the world premiere of the Spoken Word Series CD and volume 4 of Catalyst which features writers from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Germany, South Africa as well as writers resident in New Zealand from Sri Lanka, Croatia, Chile and the USA.

The CD was produced by Jody Lloyd of Christchurch-based She'll Be Right Records and Neoismist Press. It represents a collaboration between writers and original New Zealand music. It is a bold project for a New Zealand literary journal featuring music with spoken word and underlines the ongoing commitment of Neoismist Press to bringing poetry in performance into the literary spotlight and making poetry accessible to a wider audience.
Featured are voices/accents from around the world now resident in New Zealand and one or two pieces of music by New Zealanders now based overseas. This reflects the great kiwi tradition of immigration/emigration - the transient nature of modern New Zealanders and the fluidity of the notion of belonging to this place we call 'home'.
Catalyst has always sought to explore this multicultural reality as well as feature established artists alongside emerging or young talent.
The Catalyst Spoken Word Series is true to this form with several recognisable names among a few 'first-timers'.

The CD of Catalyst Spoken Word Series comes with Catalyst volume 4. Copies and subscriptions will be available for sale at the launch event and shortly in independent bookstores nationwide or from Neoismist Press.
