Congratulations to Welby Ings whose short film Boy last night took out the top award at the 21st Berlin International Short Film Festival [Interfilm].

The festival which ran from November 1st to 6th, shortlisted 500 international short films selected from over 3,600 submissions from 93 countries.The jury comprising judges from Italy, Holland, England and Germany awarded the New Zealand film the Festival's top award: Best International Short. There were in total, three international awards made: "Best Film," "Best Animation" and "Best Camera."

The Berlin festival award continues a run of other recent awards for Boy including the Grand Jury award for Best Narrative short film at CINEQUEST [California], the audience award for Best Experimental Narrative in the US wide Planet Out awards, and Best New Zealand Short Film at OUTTAKES Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Boy also recently won the John O'Shea Best New Zealand Film Award, and Best Art Direction and Best Director and Best Editing in the New Zealand short film awards [Drifting Clouds].

It also follows the film's short-listing for the 2006 Oscars and official selection for more than 50 international film festivals including Montreal, New York, St Petersburg and Clermont Ferrand.
