New York born vocalist Marlena Shaw is a true original with a sound that is soulful, swinging and versatile. Marlena is known as a jazz artist, but some only knew her as a disco artist, while others think of her in R&B mode. So who is Marlena Shaw? Well.....she is all of these.

New York born vocalist Marlena Shaw is a true original with a sound that is soulful, swinging and versatile. Marlena is known as a jazz artist, but some only knew her as a disco artist, while others think of her in R&B mode. So who is Marlena Shaw? Well.....she is all of these.

The unforgettable voice of the first female recording artist for Bluenote Records! Shaw has sung, toured and recorded with Count Basie in the late 60's. One of her biggest hits 'Women of the Ghetto' was sampled by Blue Boy in the dance hit 'Remember Me'.

She is performing at Auckland Aotea Centre on 3rd December at 8pm, Christchurch Town Hall on 8th December at 8pm and at Wellington Michael Fowler Centre on 10th December at 8pm. Contact NZSO for tickets.
