Overview

Students will be able to take personal art and design ideas, underpinned by research of contemporary practice, through to quality finished products in selected media.

Content

Graduates will be able to:

• Independently work through the creative process in their selected fields of excellence in order to produce original high quality art and design works
• Operate within the creative industry effectively, professionally and ethically
• Identify appropriate market and employment opportunities in order to successfully develop their careers
• Apply research skills to remain up-to-date with current developments in their fields
• Identify and network with models of excellence in their fields
• Contribute to the development of a vibrant creative industry in Aotearoa New Zealand as informed and laterally thinking innovators
• Produce high-quality original work in selected media, such as clay, glass, print, painting, photography and graphic design

Admission information

Applicants under 20 require:

• A portfolio
• A minimum of 14 credits at NCEA Level 3 in each of 2 subjects, one of which must be art or design or art related
• Plus 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than 2 additional domains or approved subjects

Applicants aged 20 or over require demonstrated commitment through a portfolio and interview.

Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent.
