Eric Rolls is recognised by his peers as the doyen of Australian nature writing. In a career spanning forty years he has set the human experience of living in Australia in the context of the history of the land itself, as well as its people.His award-winning and frequently reprinted book A Million Wild Acres is a study of the natural and human history of the country where he lived and farmed for many years. He has also written poetry, books for children, rural memoirs, essays on environmental matters, books on food and wine and 'a memoir of the delights of the body', A Celebration of the Senses. He was appointed a member of the Order of Australia for services to literature and the environment in 1992, and is an active member of the international Slow Food movement. Chaired by Dinah Hawken.
