The St James has been shut down, the Town Hall and Aotea Centre are closed for repairs and now Maidment Theatre will be out of action from October next year, leaving Auckland Theatre Company without a home. In a rational world says NZ Herald columnist Brian Rudman, the dwindling number of performance venues in Auckland would be "as much a regional or national infrastructural issue as was the billion-dollar rugby stadium the Government briefly dangled before our eyes last Christmas."
