In a society fuelled by violence and vendetta, a bride and groom are to marry. But the bride secretly longs for another - Leonardo Felix. On the day of her wedding, knives are close at hand - Fresh from directing Auckland Theatre Company's Ship Songs, Anna Marbrook tackles an adaptation of the 1932 Spanish play with a cast and crew of 27 Drama students from Auckland University.

In a society fuelled by violence and vendetta, a bride and groom are to marry. But the bride secretly longs for another - Leonardo Felix. On the day of her wedding, knives are close at hand -Marbrook and cast have been through an intense workshop of the play, stripping the text back to its essence. It promises to be a raw and dynamic production with a strong emphasis on ensemble work and physical theatre. "This will be a kind of physical, image based adaptation. Don't come expecting a classic rendition of the text, come expecting to see students exploring different ways of making theatre".

Anna is collaborating with renowned director Bert Van Dijk, who brings his experience working with World Choir to the piece. The production features a rich tapestry of choral songs, including a Macedonian Love Song, a Spanish Saeta and a Tokelauan Lament.

BLOOD WEDDING is a tale of unrequited passion, feuding families and rash decisions that have devastating effects.

When love is denied, love is magnified.
