Artstation’s latest exhibition Artificialia, Naturalia & Mirabilia will be a stimulating participant in the Auckland Festival of Photography 2009.

Artificialia, Naturalia & Mirabilia, meaning the artificial, the natural and the marvellous, refers to the classifications of early museum collections and objects.

Artstation’s latest exhibition Artificialia, Naturalia & Mirabilia will be a stimulating participant in the Auckland Festival of Photography 2009.

Artificialia, Naturalia & Mirabilia, meaning the artificial, the natural and the marvellous, refers to the classifications of early museum collections and objects.

Each of the four participating photographers in this exhibition take a different approach to these three classifications by looking at the display and arrangement of objects and questioning the way we look at and think about them.

“The work in the show draws upon various aspects of this early method of classification, largely through considering different cultural practices of selection, display and arrangement - whether this is to be found in a museum showcase or a still-life painting,” says exhibitor, Julie Downie.

The four photographers featured in this group photography exhibition are Julie Downie, Heyes Johnson, Faye Norman and Haruhiko Sameshima.

The exhibition runs from 3 to 20 June at Artstation.  Exhibitors Julie Downie and Faye Norman will talk about the exhibition at 2pm on Saturday, 13 June in the gallery.
