With intelligent vocals and a serious commitment to their music, their mission is to provide a positive alternative to the oft-dreary and disenchanted aura that engulfs most punk bands.

Mr MONEY MARK will return to NZ to tap out funky melodies on his vintage keyboards. Known in many circles as collaborator with Beastie Boys, his vocal presence and expanding array of retro gear further enhance his soul excursions. Born in Detroit, Mark Ramos - Nishita, aka, Money Mark, his interest in music grew in a household of eclectic musical tastes. With his most recent album, Demo or Demolition he continues to warm your soul with laid-back grooves.

Having honed his skills dj'ing at weddings and singles nights, Canadian turntable legend KID KOALA (aka Eric San) scritches and scratches a dynamite new interpretation of hip hop. He is a sample slinging warrior and the deadliest weapon in the Ninja Tunesarsenal. Like a modern day Quincy Jones in the abstract, RJD2 made his bones in the underground, playing a major role in that mid-west power surge better known as Columbus hip hop. His profile as a producer has grown immensely and his new, self-titled album RJD2 is a musical genius

Big Day Out is proud to present CRUSTY DEMONS FMX DEMO. Yes the world renowned extreme sport daredevils, The Crusty Demons, will stage a death defying array of tricks and stunts on 250cc dirt bikes while being airborne over an 80 foot gap with a 45 foot drop to contend with should they make a mistake. Featuring three of Australia's best freestyle riders the CRUSTY DEMONS FMX DEMO is sneak preview for their 2005 10th Anniversary Tour. These demos must truly be seen to be believed! Auckland's artful dodgers of skewed punk THE MINT CHICKS have spent 2004 continuing on a jazz-blended, hardcore-powered trajectory. Their UK debut single came on the legendary Fierce Panda label and the band's mid-year London live appearances saw their barely controlled chaos having the UK industry simultaneously enraptured and ducking for cover. The Mint Chicks have recently been recording their debut album in the countryside. No cows were harmed in the process. Honest.

SJD's second album Southern Lights has seen more critical acclaim heaped on Sean James Donelly and chums. Donnelly's music is a beautiful blend of singer-songwriterly tunes jammed against swinging beats that are all programmed but never sound remotely machine-driven. And it's all delivered by a gentle soul man crooning whimsical haikus about the travails of Superman and other important stuff from the cosmos.

THE HAVE have blasted out of Wanganui high school and already got themselves all the way to Austin's South By Southwest music festival. They made such an impression out there that Music Week, the international music industry bible, threw The Have onto a CD sampler of the best 10 bands at the festival. The Have bring their blend of dirty blues rock to Big Day Out 2005.

So brilliantly obnoxious that they have their own television shows in New Zealand and the UK, an Auckland radio show and a website as well as their mardi-gras show band, the guys from DEJA VOODOO could be as big as the Destiny Church if they weren't so busy getting drunk on other band's riders and breaking limbs after picking fights with inanimate objects. Hyping these guys is like voting in the US election - sometimes we wonder if it's a waste of time but then we remember that it's our civic duty. So we did the right thing and put Deja Voodoo on the bill again this year's Big Day Out.

In the explosion of New Zealand hip-hop over the past two years, people have been waiting for one man to make his presence felt. THA FEELSTYLE aka Picasso or Kas has been there right from the start - performing as RIQ, he beat the legendary Upper Hutt Posse in the country's first ever MC Battle in 1987! And finally in late 2004 he released the landmark album Break It To Pieces with his producer sensei, The Submariner aka Andy Morton. Tha Feelstyle is an outstanding and unique talent not to be missed at the Auckland Big Day Out.

PITCH BLACK's live show always delivers on the promise of mind-expanding dub and cortex-melting visualisations. Mike Hodgson and Paddy Free crash around behind their banks of machinery like a couple of sugar-fried preschoolers in a bouncy castle while world-class video mash-ups twist the big screen behind them into a far-reaching trip.

Aotearoa hip-hop veterans, FOOTSOULJAHS have incredibly only just released their debut album, the aptly-titled Puttin In Work, ten years after starting out in Wellington. Representing for the underground, Footsouljahs have a mean stage presence and a huge reputation from playing years of headline shows and major supports for acts including The Roots, Bones Thugs'n'Harmony, Cypress Hill and Coolio.

8 FOOT SATIVA already stand tall as legends of New Zealand heavy metal. Two big-selling albums go with a brutal live show to prove that no-one can mess with these bad boys of Wild West Auckland when it comes to metal mayhem and world domination. Like a bottle of Jack Daniels and a pair of leather trousers, 8 Foot Sativa are welcomed back to this year's Big Day Out as good old friends.

Dirty Records duo FRONTLINE are about to explode into the big time after a string of achievements in the local underground scene. MC Con Psy has of course gained a profile with his appearances in Scribe's "Not Many - the Remix" and P Money's recent single, "3-2-1" while his producer partner Forty One has production credits including The Deceptikonz feat Scribe and Fiso's "Stop Drop N Roll Remix".

Infectious Auckland rappers FAST CREW also join the hip-hop bill at this year's event. Their second single "I Got" was a top five smash and saw these kids breakthrough to the big time.

The BREAKIN WRECKWORDZ crew are the exciting, cutting edge of new talent in New Zealand hip-hop. The crew has dominated the local freestyle and battle scene in recent times and their independent label releases have already thrown up alternative radio hits for Usual Suspects with "Profile" and PNC with "Day In A Life".

For a band whose most senior member is all of 20, New Zealand band EVERMORE (now based in Oz) has taken off in leaps and bounds. Their knockout debut album Dreams has music writers scrambling to find new superlatives to describe it. This is teen spirit at its finest. With an album that could move mountains EVERMORE make their BIG DAY OUT debut

48 MAY bring their contagious pop-punk to the Big Day Out on the back of hit singles like "Leather and Tattoos" from their new album, The Mad Love. These feel-good, fun time rock'n'rollers describe themselves as "Sum 41 meets Foo Fighters, with a hint of Def Leppard".

With one foot in the generation they were born in and one in the generation where they live, Auckland five-piece REVOLVER are rock classicists in the grand tradition of bands where big Epiphone guitars, collared shirts and facial hair can be worn with equal aplomb.

THE FANATICS are a duo who have timed their arrival on the Auckland scene as perfectly as a soviet jetliner crashing onto a West German arts commune in 1978. Their modern dancefloor indie stylings have just seen their first EP release while live The Fanatics are quite simply a revelation, proving there is no need for a rhythm section when you have a laptop, a guitar, frenetic energy, and style to burn.

THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION bring their eerie take on rock and electronic noodlery up from Wellington to beguile the Big Day Out audience this year. Sophisticated pop melancholists in the grand tradition of everyone from Pavement to Radiohead, these six fellows combine into a class musical act.

4 CORNERS have been a mainstay of the H-town hip-hop scene since 1998. Named from the four elements of hip-hop culture, their well-established chemistry has lit up the stage alongside many top acts this year and will be welcomed at Big Day Out 2005.

Joining the cast of top-notch DJ talent appearing behind the decks at this year's Auckland Big Day Out are local dance music legends GREG CHURCHILL, ROGER PERRY and, fresh from extensive appearances pumping the house clubs of Ibiza, MATT CLARKE.

A surprise at the 2005 Big Day Out will be the winners of the competition to open the Boost Mobile Hip Hop Stage. We're calling all MC's, Crews, RnB singers, BeatBoxers, and DJs to enter this competition to be the first act onstage at this year's event, courtesy of sponsors Boost Mobile.

The winner for this year's Jack Daniel's Live N' Local contest is CHUGANAUT, who will be opening the Big Day Out for 2005.
