Art in Asia is primarily shown in independent art spaces. With a seeming lack of good publicly funded institutions and only a few active dealer galleries, these art spaces are the most important places for artists to exhibit and for an interested public to experience contemporary art.

Generally they are all small organizations, have no collection and show, promote and advocate the most cutting edge contemporary art in their region.

Each of the participating art spaces will deliver a 25kg box to ARTSPACE. The contents of this box aim to evaluate their position within the Asian and International art scene, describe the ideology of their art space, or present a key artist for their organization to a New Zealand audience.
