Different artists respond to the challenge posed at Survive & Thrive 2012 - 'We need to talk about the future'
Perceptual Engineering will show the world on a balloon as an installation at Survive & Thrive 2012. People will be able to control the fate of the earth using different parameters 'nature', 'development', 'control' and 'chaos'. These parameters are intrinsically linked; as development increases nature decreases. Only when the parameters are in balance can harmony occur.
Jon Baxter says "The driving force for me was the concept of balance. We cannot have our cake and eat it. We must take responsibility for action. I wanted to make an interface to the earth that virtually demonstrated this.
I am also intrigued by the relationship between nature and technology. Things are changing faster and faster. Potentially we are on the brink of some paradigm shifting changes. Concepts such as aging, biological consciousness, resources and pollution, may not be relevant in the future. What if time didn't always march forward at the same rate for everybody? What if our consiousness didn't die after 80 or so years?.... would this mean we could send people on 20,000 year journeys to other solar systems?"
Lovenotes helps companies to refresh their waste paper into brilliant, useful, and valuable stationery products, they can reuse again. They are planning on creating an installation that comes alive through the collaborative dreams of our future.
Who are you?
Manda and Reza are social entrepreneurs endeavoring to inspire creative innovation, through social enterprise and through art.
Manda founded Lovenotes in 2008, as a creative response to paper waste in the office. And the team now has six enthusiastic people involved, of which Reza is one.
What are you looking forward to?
Working alongside Jon Baxter and meeting other creative spirits!
What do you think we need to talk about regarding the future?
Manda: enquiring into how we affect the well being of the environment, social justice and community, and ourselves and everyone around us, in each and every thing we do, action we take, from eating to moving to working and creating.
Reza: Stop talking. Start being.
Human Rhythms are teamwork specialists. They will be running our networking session using their musical tubes. Each tube is tuned to a different musical note [based on its length]. When hit on the hand, each different coloured tube produces a different tone. These intertwining rhythms come together to produce a musical composition making music as a team.
