Architecture and the imagination are explored by two exhibitions on at the Adam Art Gallery until 21 December. Pulp Fictions: The Art of Giovanni Battista Piranesi showcases Giovanni Battista Piranesi's etched oeuvre from the excellent collection of the Alexander Turnbull Library. Leading Auckland-based artist Andrew McLeod has created a temporary room-sized wall drawing in the gallery to coincide with this exhibition. His fantastical descriptions of ancient buildings inspired artists, writers and architects both to image and lament the grandeur that was Rome.
