Paremata potter and sculptor Anneke Borren opens her studio to Wellington art buyers this November.

Following her long-standing tradition of holding regular open weekends, Anneke presents a collection of work including playful and witty hand-painted tiles based on her experiences working in Holland some 40 years ago.Paremata potter and sculptor Anneke Borren opens her studio to Wellington art buyers this November.

Following her long-standing tradition of holding regular open weekends, Anneke presents a collection of work including playful and witty hand-painted tiles based on her experiences working in Holland some 40 years ago.Her November 'Open Weekend' will be a special opportunity to view new work from this renowned New Zealand craftswoman. All work is for sale and can be taken home immediately.

"Within this year's output of work I've been concentrating on my Dutch heritage and my experience in the 1960s with Delft Blue decorating on tiles" she says.

New works include "Whimsical Tiles" (2006) - handpainted tiles with over 100 individual designs, which are both timeless and cheeky in their portrayal of scenes featuring fish, sea creatures, roosters, and peacocks.

Anneke Borren - recent highlights:

  • Rock The Stone carving symposium, held in Albany Village, North Shore City, Auckland in February 2006. Four weeks of stone carving featuring 25 sculptors from around New Zealand. The biggest event of its kind in the Auckland region.
  • Artists of the Academy Council exhibition at the NZ Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington (September 2006). Featuring works by Academy Council members from 1960 to the present day. A special prelude to the Academy's
    125th anniversary celebrations in 2007.
  • Current show: group exhibition Land Where the Spirits Fly at Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre, Upper Hutt (October - November 2006). Alongside works by Robert Franken, Gerard McCabe, and Lynda Mapplebeck.
