Auckland based photographer Abby Storey is exhibiting two series' of work in Three. Her Touchstones series tell a story of the haphazard nature of humanity, even in times of reverence.It shows cultural touchstones inadvertently decontextualised; a knock by a child, an overzealous use of sellotape, suffocation by a large plastic bag.... such are the fates of many a familiar symbol in our fast tracked reality. 'Touchstones' is a series of photographic artworks of the familiar, the sacred and the circumstances that overtake them.
Abby's second series is altogether more personal. The Garden Fence series tells of leavetaking, the beginning of a journey and the loss that is inevitably part of such change.
Stylised as thoughts, Davina's images combine simplicity of subject and light with the intricate delicacies of fine art archival printing to produce a conceptual perspective of issues that confront our present day. Specialising in darkroom and digital printing Davina works from her Warkworth base 'Black Barn Studios' producing film and photography based projects.
sada will exhibit pieces from her evolving work with found objects and montaged colour images. Entwining a sense of awe and respect for nature with cultural signs and effects on our environment, these composite works reticulate details, subtleties and nuances of symbols and perception. Gathering and re-cycling from the collective consciousness, consumerism, capitalism and propaganda transact with change, growth and hope. sada creates photography and recycles, curates at the object art gallery Piece and was recently appointed an editor with PhotoForum.
All three of the ADs Collective has been exhibiting photography consistently for a number of years. Recently Abby was selected to be the feature artist in the inaugural edition of MoMento, the new magazine published by the well established organisation PhotoForum New Zealand. Davina is currently producing a documentary of the first interaction and impact of colonisation on Maori carvers, using works created by Tene Waitere of Ngati Tarawhai.
The exhibition Iota introduced the "ADs collective"; the trio of photographers Abby Storey, Davina and sada. Following their x3= exhibition in 2006 ADs cemented collaborations utilising their complementary and contrasting talents, launching an ongoing series of exhibitions with Iota. ADs examine items of cultural, social and environmental importance and how they are treated in the modern day. Each of the photographers works in a distinctive style, challenging the boundaries of photography, art and perception.
Three runs from the 12th September to the 5th of October 2008 and is held in collaboration with Piece Gallery and Ransom Wines, Matakana.
Spring brings a re-awakening of sensory pleasures with the re-opening of Charlies Gelato Garden coinciding with the opening of an exhibition of photography in the adjoining Fine Line Gallery.
Three opens at Fine Line Gallery with a preview on Friday 12th September 2008, in collaboration with Ransom Wines and Piece.
