Politics, religion and developing relationships between Maori and Europeans: it is timely to re-assess early relations between Maori and the French, beginning with French explorers such as du Fresne, followed by traders and French Catholic missionaries, to the time of British Treaty-making, subsequent war and rapid change.

The event will be recorded so that a permanent record can be created for future generations. The result: the publication of an informative and accessible book, together with an educational interactive CD ROM.
